The Academic Learning Center helps students experience academic growth and personal development
"Throughout the year of having extra tutoring, Waylon has thrived and learned how to take his time and stay focused. He is always excited and go to ALC, learn and spend extra time with his awesome teachers."
"When she started, she was in the “at risk” range on her Fastbridge scores. Now, she’s testing in the college pathway range. That kind of growth is exactly why ALC matters."
"Not only did his reading improve, through her hands on lessons about sharks or the books she would make him about his favorite activity, football - but Preston was able to experience a once in a lifetime relationship with an adult that he will remember for the rest of his life."
Your support and contributions will enable us to provide free tutoring to over 500 children in our Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City schools. Your charitable donation will fund our mission to serve those students in financial and academic need. ALC is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Organization.

Teachers make the difference!
Certified teachers in each school are hired to work with children in reading and/or math. By having a tutor from your school, children receive personalized services based on their individual needs as determined by the classroom teachers and communicated to the tutor. By using certified teachers within the schools, our model is unique, and ALC is confident that it works well.
Academic Learning Center was established in 1996 in the First Missionary Baptist Church in the Logan Community in Concord. In 2001, we partnered with the Cabarrus County and Kannapolis City School Systems, and United Way, to develop the current model for delivering tutoring services. This school year, ALC is partnering with 12 elementary schools to provide tutoring on site at each of these schools, serving approximately 550 students.
The Academic Learning Center's goal is to assist children in financial and academic need with free after school tutoring, toward improving their reading and math performance. ALC students strive for higher attendance and are more confident in their ability to participate in regular classroom lessons. Academic Learning Center is a separate organization from the school system and depends on private funding from foundations, businesses and individuals to run its program. Every dollar spent is carefully allocated to make the best use of available money.
